Dear Sentinels
Modern vehicles have quietly become some of the most complex computers on wheels, stuffed with dozens of electronic control units (ECUs), miles of wiring, and more connections to the outside world than your average teenager. Cellular, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth you name it, your car probably has it. All this cleverness brings us plenty of convenience and safety, but it also opens up a rather worrying new attack surface. Unlike a hacked laptop, a compromised car can turn a cybersecurity mishap into a physical safety problem. That’s why the automotive industry has had to pinch, tweak, and invent frameworks for spotting and fixing weaknesses before the baddies get there first.
Two tools have become especially handy in this effort: STRIDE and the CAPEC database. STRIDE is a threat modelling framework that gets engineers asking the all-important question: what could possibly go wrong here? (Spoiler: quite a lot.) It breaks threats into six neat categories: Spoofing, Tampering, Repudiation, Information Disclosure, Denial of Service, and Elevation of Privilege. CAPEC, run by MITRE, is its trusty sidekick, cataloguing real-world attack patterns so security teams can see how the bad actors actually get up to mischief. Together, these frameworks help automotive engineers move from vague 'we should probably be secure' vibes to a proper, repeatable process for spotting, ranking, and sorting out the threats that matter most in our increasingly connected cars.
It's time to set up your holiday streaming campaign
Are you ready to reach holiday shoppers on CTV? For many streamers, the season is already underway.
Last year, according to Roku internal data, holiday content searches on Roku saw an 86% increase during October. And in November, those searches rise an average of 39% weekly. This surging holiday spirit is mirrored by consumer activity, as about half of Roku streamers shopped Black Friday and Cyber Monday deals in 2025.
Meeting those shoppers is easier than you might think. Begin with the seasonal outcome you hope to drive: awareness, online sales, leads, store visits, or another measurable goal. From there, define your audience, upload your creative, set the budget and campaign dates, and establish measurement before launching. You can even create a shoppable ad unit that lets streamers buy with a click of their remote.
Our holiday playbook offers a month-by-month guide to reaching shoppers during this all-important time of year.
First-time spenders get a $5,000 match on the first $5,000 spent with code BEEHIIV5K. Terms apply.
